Full Moon – March 2017

By Marijosephe (Mija) Pierre Bradford –

March Full Moon Date: Sunday, March 12, 2017
As Thomas Fuller describes March, it’s “In like a lion, out like a lamb.” This is the month when the season of spring begins, and the Spring Equinox occurs. March is such a changeable month, which brings the end of a season, and new life.

Full Moon Names
Many cultures and religions have provided different names to the moon. The following are a few known Native American Full Moon names: The Full Magpie or Crow Moon, The (Full or Snow) Crust Moon, The (Full) Worm Moon, and The (Full) Sap Moon.

Names given to the Moon helped keep track of the seasons, while in other cultures it described the energy which flowed during this time. Reflecting on the names and meaning is a powerful indicator of what the month may have to offer you.

Power Flow of Energy
Last month we took the time for purification – we cleaned up our spiritual house. In this Moon, we celebrate the energy of life coming back. New energy rises to the surface and brings forth opportunity for growth, prosperity, and exploring. Notice the new beginnings that emerge in your life, and the balance of Light and Dark in situations. See the Truth in your life; break false illusions you made into reality.

The Spring Equinox will occur Monday, March 20, 2017. The equinox marks the moment the sun shines directly on the equator, and the length of day and night is nearly equal. The equinox focuses on balance; however, the March equinox is an explosive one. Nature shows its power with storms, rains, and windy days. These are the birthing pains that the planet and we are going through to give birth to new life.

New Moon Date:  Monday, March 27, 2017.
The Full Moon is an opportune time for purging old ways; the New Moon is an optimal time for planning and seeding your intentions. Seeds need a period of gestation before they break through the soil and reach for the sunlight. This is also true for cultivating our ideas, and clearing the way for our visions to surface and become our new reality. The dark phase of the New Moon offers a nurturing environment where our intentions can establish roots, before evidence of the manifestations sprout in our lives. New Moon rituals can help you identify and focus on your desires.

New Moon Ritual
Prepare for your New Moon ritual by setting aside time to reflect on the below reflective questions. I personally work on the questions a week prior to the New Moon.

Sacred Space – Prepare a sacred space where you will reflect and perform your New Moon ceremony when it arrives.

Items you may want to have present for the ceremony:
Flowers:          daffodil, violet
Scents:             honeysuckle, apple blossom
Stones:            aquamarine, bloodstone
Element:          Water

Self-Reflection Questions & Steps (In your notebook answer the following questions.)

  1. What is my heart longing for? What would it look like, feel, and sound like? Or simply, what would I love to create?
Answering these questions will help you decipher a Vision. Your vision is in alignment with your highest values, and your deepest desires.
  2. What’s significant and meaningful about this vision or goal? Or, why is this important?
Understanding your reasoning behind your mindset of this goal will help solidify the desire in you.
  3. Do I believe in my heart and mind that my vision is possible? Can I lovingly and gracefully accept this new reality into my life?
If you have any opposing thoughts, competing commitments, or beliefs that contradict whatever you desire to manifest, you will not obtain the desired results.
  4. Write a simple affirmation in line with this vision/goal on an index card.
State this affirmation throughout the moon phases, as often as possible.
  5. Finally, on the day of the New Moon, meditate and release attachment to your vision/intentions.
  6. Be sure to create time and space to celebrate your new manifestation, as celebration introduces the vibration and feeling of joy and appreciation, which expand your capacity to continue to create.
