Letter From The Publisher – September 2016

Happy 38th Birthday Conscious Community Magazine!

I want to start by saying “thank you” to many important people, starting with the founders of Conscious Community Magazine, formerly The Monthly Aspectarian, Guy and Jeanne Spiro. Their vision and hard work started an amazing and informative product, back when New Age thinking was just beginning to expand, in 1979. Jeanne Spiro; “One of the things we're very proud of is Guy's Conversations with leaders in this field. When viewed together, they are an impressive list which includes: Marilyn Ferguson, Joan Borysenko, John Bradshaw, Matthew Fox, Deepak Chopra, Jean Houston, Robert Masters, Ram Dass, Brian Weiss, Bernie Siegel, Dan Millman, Neale Donald Walsch, Shakti Gawain, Sonia Choquette, Thomas Moore, and Richard Bach.”

Next, I want to thank the late Walter Perschke, our former publisher, who changed the name of the magazine to Conscious Community Magazine.  Also, I want to thank all of our advertisers, subscribers, readers, writers, and coworkers, who support this magazine, and make this magazine enlightening, inspirational, and uplifting. Thank you to all of you.

A few weeks ago, I went on a pilgrimage walk to Our Lady of Czestochowa Shrine and Salvatorian Fathers Monastery, from Chicago to Merrillville, Indiana. For a long time, this Pilgrimage was on my bucket list, but I was always too busy to go. I left all my electronic gadgets at home – including my cellphone, to just be with the God, or source, as many people call it.

The recent passing of Walter Perschke was really difficult for me. I felt left out, and alone. I knew that I needed to change something, because feeling sorry for myself does not serve anyone, so I decided that I would go on the pilgrimage.

When I was a teenager, I loved going to churches, on trips where people were singing, laughing, and praying. I think I felt the most of God’s presence when I was with other people.

My grandmother thought that I would become a nun, yet in my heart I knew there was something else that I needed to do on this earth.

The first day of the pilgrimage we walked 34 miles, and the second day we went 10 miles, singing and praying. What really moved me was that there were around 8000 people on the pilgrim's journey, with some intentions to change in our lives. Some people were singing, and some were just walking. I was one of those who walked and let my thoughts flow, and just enjoy it. When I got to Merrillville, something broke inside me, and I started crying. I felt that a shift happened and it feels like I am the whole, happy person again that I always was. I know that I am not alone, and the whole universe is helping me out with my everyday decisions. My advice to you is do not stop your spiritual journey, even though sometimes it can be tough.

The Best,
Kasia Szumal

  1. Kasia, so beautiful. Sometimes when I am struggling, I know a shift is coming. I think a crowd of 8000 seekers walking would be so powerful, next time I am feeling I have to let go, I am going to remember this pilgrimage is available. Thanks for the post. Dawn

  2. Kasia, I am so sorry for your loss. I hope you are on a better path to healing and renewal. Sometimes we go through these types of changes to promote growth and strength. You are not alone in this, as everyone of us experience this through seasons of our lives. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and the staff at Conscience Community Magazine. Thank you so much for everything. Much love and light!

  3. Thank you for all your support!
