Moon Void of Course (VOC) by Kaye Berjot
Column: Astrology Basics 101
Throughout the course of the Astrology Basics 101 series, I have covered a great deal of subjects. In some cases the topics were a little more advanced than the traditional basics. I felt it necessary to at a minimum introduce these concepts to you because they help to add a little more clarity to how astrology works. Therefore, if you need to revert back to any of the articles from the series, please do not hesitate to visit the Conscious Community Magazine website.
In this article, I’ll discuss the Moon Void of Course (or Void of Course Moon), its significance and ways of coping with it. This topic has been popping up a lot recently. It is not considered to be a major event in astrological terms because it does not present the shock and awe that transits like squares, conjunctions, oppositions, trines and sextiles deliver. To be honest, it is almost a non-event because you actually have to listen for it.
What is interesting about Moon VOC is that it takes place approximately 40% of the time, throughout the course of a year. Therefore, it’s ironic that you have to pay attention to an event that happens more often than any other astrological event.
The Moon VOC is the time period from when the moon makes its last aspect in one sign before moving into the next sign. The moon is the fastest moving planet and transitions from one sign into the next every one to three days. What that means is that the moon is constantly in motion, it’s never retrograde. Because the moon is constantly in motion, it’s inevitable that she will connect with “something”…i.e. another planet or transit, until the moment that she doesn’t. At that point in time, the only “thing” that the moon has to connect with is you through your higher self.
In previous articles, I talked about how the sign of Cancer is ruled by the Moon, and how Cancer is the natural ruler of the fourth house. In this article, I’d like for you to focus on the Moon and her attributes. As a reminder her attributes are connected to emotions and intuition.
Moon VOC is significant because it is the time when you are able to commune with your higher self without all of the noise from other planetary alignments. It’s during this time that you can focus on your own intuition and guidance. The lines of communication are clear and open. Because Moon VOC occurs so often, we forget that it’s actually there. It’s like looking for water when you are already swimming in a fresh water lake.
During a Moon VOC we have the opportunity to connect with that emotion of “having” rather than the notion of “searching”. It’s really quite subtle, so subtle that we almost forget that it exists.
When these events occur the best thing to do is to meditate, sit still, and listen to your higher guidance. Sitting still does not mean to physically sit still, although it can be beneficial. I’m pretty sure that this is why our parents and grandparents told us to “be still.”
To me sitting still means to allow all other influences to be still. Allow the noise to be still. It’s the hardest thing to do, and that is why we have 40% of the time throughout the course of a year to do it.
In actuality, I’m only pointing out the obvious to you. These are things that have been said to you before, yet you just couldn’t see it because you were constantly swimming. So just allow yourself to float.
In conclusion, I’m hoping that you understand the point of a Moon Void of Course and its benefits. When a VOC is in Aries, focus on who you are, and not on who everyone thinks you are. When VOC is in Taurus, meditate on what you have, and not what the noise says you should have. When VOC is in your eighth house, meditate on how you view transition, and not on how others believe you should be transitioning. When VOC is in your twelfth house, rid yourself of the things that are unhealthy for your growth, and hit the mute button on what others are telling you is unhealthy.
The Moon Void of Course is your time and your space. It’s your time to fully utilize your intuition to help you.
As always, thank you for supporting the Conscious Community Magazine!
