Breath Awareness: Mastering a

Classic Buddhist Meditation with

Bhante Samahita

Saturday, Jan.12, 2019, 10:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Ānāpānasati meditation guided and explained!

Awareness of Breathing is one of the most widely practiced meditation methods in the Buddhist tradition. The Buddha himself used it on the night of his enlightenment and often praised its benefits. Buddhist monk, Bhante Samahita, will provide an in-depth exploration of this classic breath meditation technique as described by the Buddha in one of his most important discourses. We will go through all 16 steps in four sessions that include explanation followed by sitting and walking meditations. The first sessions will focus on calming the mind (samatha), while the last session will focus on gaining incisive insight (vipassana). This meditation method can induce all the four jhāna-absorptions and develop the seven factors of Enlightenment (bojjhanga), which may be why Buddha Gotama called it both “unique” and “sublime.”

Bhante Samāhita was educated as a medical doctor at the Copenhagen University in Denmark and became Associate Professor in Bioinformatics at the Technical University in Denmark, working with theoretical biology and artificial intelligence. He arrived in Sri Lanka in 2001, where he became fully ordained as a Bhikkhu in 2003. As a monk of the Theravada Araññavasin Forest Tradition, he has been living and meditating for the past 16 years alone in a remote mountain forest hermitage. His main philosophical interest is the convergence and congruence of ideas within Early Buddhism, Orthodox Quantum Physics, Einsteinian Relativity, Information Theory and Thermodynamics.

During the process, work through the field to search for possible solutions that can release entanglements and help provide you with a different experience in the family system.
