Rabbi Rami Shapiro on the Sacred Art of Lovingkindness @ The Theosophical Society
May 6 @ 10:30 am – 4:30 pm

The Theosophical Society in America welcomes award-winning author and Spirituality & Health Magazine columnist Rabbi Rami Shapiro to Wheaton for a workshop on the art of lovingkindness.

We are all born with the capacity to act with compassion, though we often lack the insight and will to do so. In this inspiring and practical exploration of the art of lovingkindness, Rabbi Rami will share the tools we need to realize the divinity of self and others, and to manifest godliness in our own lives. Drawing on the Thirteen Attributes of (Mercy) Lovingkindness articulated in the Book of Exodus (Exodus 34:6-7) and placing them in the context of inter-spirituality, we will explore teachings and practices from many of the world's religions, as ways to cultivate compassion, grace, patience and forgiveness.

The Path of Hope: Integral Ecology for Home and Hemisphere
Feb 13 @ 7:00 pm

Dr. Michael J. Schuck, Professor, Department of Theology, Loyola University Chicago
Dr. Nancy C. Tuchman, Director, Institute of Environmental Sustainability, Loyola University Chicago

Time:7–9 p.m.

The Path of Hope: Integral Ecology for Home and Hemisphere | Luecht Conference Center In partnership with the Care of Creation team from Resurrection Catholic Church.

Effective, long-lasting action for Earth health will depend on a critical mass of human beings experiencing
a conversion of inner spirit and an alignment of a personal life meaning with our planet. Scientific clarity, ethical guidance, spiritual engagement, and direct action—these are the four connected steps we need to take in order to heal the Earth, both locally and globally. Each step, says Pope Francis in Laudato Sí, invites

“a conversation that includes everyone.” So, let’s join the conversation!

Renaissance Art and Vegetables
Feb 27 @ 12:00 pm

Dr. James Nienhuis, University of Wisconsin–Madison (MCC Alumus)

Time: Noon  B166–67

We can often trace the evolution of many of our grain crops, because the seeds are dry and can be preserved
in archeological sites. Not so with fruits and vegetables. These foods have a very high moisture content and are perishable, so we don’t have an archeological record, but we do have art. During the Renaissance, there was a trend towards Natura Morta, or still life paintings, and those paintings from the 15th and 16th century give us record of what many European vegetables looked like 500+ years ago. And some of them look pretty weird! So next time you go to the Art Institute in Chicago, don’t look for the Rembrandts, look for the vegetables.

Women Farming Cooperatives in Central America
Feb 27 @ 6:00 pm

Women Farming Cooperatives in Central America | Luecht Conference Center

Time: 6–8 p.m.

On a project funded by USAID through the University of California–Davis, Nienhuis’ lab worked as the lead institution in a truly international project to promote sustainable vegetable production in rural areas of Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras and Costa Rica. Tomato and pepper production can be among the most profitable sources of income and food security for many single mothers and women’s cooperatives in rural areas of tropical Central America. This presentation will share the science and stories behind this international research project that impacted many both in central America and sustainable farming here in the US.

GET A PLAN, A MOTIVE AND A LIFE DIRECTION
Oct 20 @ 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm

GET A PLAN, A MOTIVE AND A LIFE DIRECTION! 12-2. $20. Most spiritual people have a point in their lives where they hit a crossroad and know something in their life must change. But sometimes they aren’t sure what to do or how to go about it. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by an end goal of where you’d like to be or to feel defeated before you begin if you have no idea where you’re going. In this session, we’re going to streamline things down to a few areas of focus to cut down on the scatter, fear, confusion and over-analyzing. By the end, you’ll have a plan, a motive and a direction! Location: 219 W. 55th St., STE 105, Clarendon Hills, IL 60514 (Go through front door, turn right, down the stairs, office 105 on the left).
