EFT: Emotional Freedom Techniques

By Tom Masbaum

EFT is a simple, gentle and very effective “tapping” procedure done on some of the acupuncture spots. The gentle tapping stimulates the energy meridians in your body, and with the proper energy flow, a natural healing process takes place.

EFT has been around since the early 1990s and has circled the globe. There are thousands of EFT practitioners in the US, including many in the Chicago area. Many alternative health practitioners have included it in their practice, along with their other healing modalities.

Some of the following statements, taken from the original manual could sound too good to be true:

“…Often works where nothing else has worked… Is usually rapid, long lasting and gentle… Involves no drugs or equipment… Is easily learned by anyone… Can be self-applied… Properly applied, over 80% who try EFT achieve either noticeable improvement or complete cessation of the problem.”

Based on impressive new discoveries involving the body's subtle energies, EFT has been clinically effective in thousands of cases. You can go to www.EFT-TOM.com, and follow the links, to read the actual clinical cases and testimonials regarding dramatic relief for trauma/PTSD, abuse, anger, grief, panic & anxiety, fears & phobias, depression, addictive cravings, children's Issues, and hundreds of physical symptoms including chronic pain relief of headaches, hip, knee, back, and shoulder pains, breathing difficulties, and digestive issues such as acid reflux, colitis, diverticulitis, Crohn's, and IBS. All of these and many more symptoms are substantially lessened, or even totally eliminated.

Gary Craig is the originator of the procedure. He studied under Dr. Roger Callahan of California, who originated TFT, Thought Field Therapy. TFT is a relatively complicated method of applying tapping to the acupuncture spots on the body, and Gary shortened the process substantially. The basic plan has 20 spots to tap (top of the head, edges of your eyes, under the nose, chin, collarbone, etc.), and can be done in any sequence. They were taught in a particular sequence in the original manual, to facilitate learning and remembering the spots. These 20 areas to tap included a 10-spot shortcut, which became more of the norm for most users and practitioners.

Almost everyone can learn enough to put it to good use in a short two-hour workshop. EFT is that simple, and that effective. My clients and I always get some benefit, even in a short period of application of only a few minutes. To really learn EFT, it is recommended that you attend a longer workshop between 6 and 14 hours. It is also recommended that you start using it for yourself, friends, and family, to fully use what you’ve learned.

In an EFT session, the client is guided to select a painful memory, and to stick with that memory during the entire session, until the bite or sting is totally gone. The setup, or starting statement, usually has two parts to help the client focus on a particular memory, and also saying something positive to eliminate psychological reversal. (This could generate an entirely separate article.) Then the tapping begins while reviewing the memory and its painful parts. This is the simple use of EFT, and it works so that hundreds of thousands of people around the world use EFT. The online Tapping World Summit every spring has over 100,000 people tapping along. Information on this can also be found on my website, www.EFT-Tom.com.

I started to practice EFT in August of 2004, and have had over 7,000 private sessions with clients, most of them on the phone. I’ve added a few steps to help the client really get in touch with how they felt in the original experience. I found that I can guarantee success, or there’s no charge, in every EFT session. The client just has to be willing to follow the process.

As an example of what can sometimes result from an EFT session, here is a quote from Gary Craig, the founder of EFT, on his website: “Hi Everyone. Big thanks to Tom Masbaum for sharing the details of this remarkable 2-for-1 EFT result. Note how both the stuttering and the colon problem simply vanished (even though 3 doctors insisted that colon surgery was required). Hugs, Gary.”

And another, “Thank you, Tom. One session of EFT with you has done more for me than 16 years of the pain & time & expense in therapy. The grieving is over. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.” Joan S.

Many other healing modalities have fantastic results, without harmful side effects. Many of you reading this article are nodding your head as you remember your own release of emotional or physical symptoms through the use of an alternative/complementary therapy. The blessing in all of this is the healing – the release of emotional and physical symptoms.
