Everything is changing; our planet is changing, the climate is changing, we, ourselves are changing. When I was a teenager, I never thought that I would become a vegan, or develop the compassion that I currently have for animals. I never anticipated that I would be riding a bicycle over 100 miles each week, and that I would be enjoying it so much!  All of these gifts came into my life when I was ready for change and open to receive.

In Poland, there is a common greeting. When one is asked “What’s new with you?” The response is, “Everything is the same; I’m so glad that it’s not worse.”  I am stirred when people say this because, in my life, everything is constantly changing. While at times I wish that I could just stop and do nothing, I’m glad that my life has been evolving. I’ve made a 180° change since moving to the United States 13 years ago, and that is because I welcomed all of the experiences that came my way.

What happens when change comes apparently from nowhere?

For me, what is most important is to stay grounded, and have the faith that everything is taken care of.  I consciously and intentionally remind myself that I am ready for change. I cultivate the faith that the universe will provide, and that all I need will come to me; for as the song says, “Don’t Worry, Be Happy!” Changes are messages from the universe. If you believe this, and I do, then you know that they are gifts that light the way to our highest and truest self.

How to Stay Grounded and Deal with Such Changes:

Here are some practices to follow to keep yourself grounded, and to handle change in the healthiest and most effective way possible:  Exercise by walking barefoot in nature, by going to the gym and lifting weights, or practicing yoga and meditation. Take time to feel your body, and feed it healthy foods like fruits, legumes, and root vegetables such as potatoes, sweet potatoes and yams, and rice.  Drink plenty of water, and go to bed no later than 10:00 p.m.

My belief is that we are spiritual beings having human experiences, which we chose and agreed to before we were born. One of the ways to accept change is to have faith. This means trusting that all was taken care of prior to our birth. It is our privilege to enjoy the ride, even though at times it can be bumpy. Also, I like to think that all changes are catalysts on an extraordinary journey that leads us to the ultimate realization that we are infinite, and created in pure love.

We are energy beings, and at times in our lives, what we have, and who we are, no longer resonates with us. We are thus called to change; to move forward. Do you ever wonder what life would be like if you worked less, and had more recreation time? At times I’ve dreamt of only working 9 to 5; of having a life in which I did not have to worry about work 24-7. Then I realize that while I might be more comfortable, I would not be truly happy. I love what I do! I embrace change, and I trust that it is coming my way for the highest good. Every day I know that change feeds my soul.  While I don’t always expect it, or welcome it with open arms, in the end I know that each change is a milestone on my journey, and every shift transforms me into the person I am becoming, and I am deeply grateful for this.

The Best,
Kasia Szumal
